Driving

If you want to add a little road trip adventure into your travels (Hilary and Ward style) you have several options:

  • The closest major airport is San Jose Mineta International Airport (SJC)

    • Drive time to Carmel-by-the-Sea: 1.5 hours

    • Potential stops: Santa Cruz and Big Basin Redwoods

  • Another option to the north is San Francisco International Airport (SFO)

    • Drive time: 2-3 hours

    • Potential stops: Golden Gate Park, Muir Woods, Half Moon Bay, Santa Cruz, plenty of beaches and state parks along Route 1

  • Final and favorite option is to fly into Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and drive north on scenic Route 1 along the coastline

    • Drive time: 6 hours minimum depending how often you stop along the way - but trust us, you’re going to want to!

Flying

We suggest flying into Monterey Regional Airport (MRY). It’s about a 15 minute drive into Carmel-by-the-Sea. Ubers and taxis are readily available. Flying in to any other airport will require renting a car (see next section for details).
